Share your light this Christmas

A quiet woman named Mary. A hard-working carpenter named Joseph. Imagine if you had been a traveler, passing them on the road to Bethlehem.

You may have simply smiled at them, and quickly moved on. But then, you couldn’t have known their journey would end in a miracle: the birth of our Lord.

Like me, you’ve probably pictured that first Christmas night many times. The Holy Family. The shepherds and their flocks. Together beneath a dazzling star.

When the Wise Men saw the star, St. Matthew wrote, “they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.” Ever since, it has symbolized the hope Jesus brought to us all.

This Christmas Eve, I’ll travel to Bethlehem for Midnight Mass.

I’ll travel to the spot where Mary, Joseph and our newborn Savior were bathed in that star’s joyous light. And I want you to come with me in spirit.

Join me under the Christmas star.

Send your special intentions to me. I’ll share them with Jesus during Mass. And I know he’ll bless you, just like He blessed those shepherds and Wise Men long ago.

At CNEWA, we believe in sharing our blessings. In the Middle East and beyond, we’re providing shelter, medical care, education and more to families struggling to survive.

These are trying times for our world, when cruel voices want us to turn our backs on vast numbers of desperate people. As Pope Francis said during the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, “We have to put mercy before judgment.”

So when you send your intentions? I hope you’ll add a donation if you can. Help us spread the light of kindness among children, parents and grandparents who have nowhere to turn. Please be their shining star.

May God bless you and fill your Christmas with joy,

Msgr. John E. Kozar
