Help the hungry hold on to life

In Northeast Africa, months of drought — followed by torrential rains that have washed the topsoil away — have ensured there’ll be no harvest this year.

Thousands of children, parents and grandparents — in Ethiopia and places nearby — won’t have food this winter. For them, a deadly hunger crisis is no longer a possibility. It’s already here.

At CNEWA, we’re helping these struggling people. Mothers like Ayane and her malnourished children. Herders like Taye, with his dying cattle. Families — mostly headed by women — who are now living in a state of shock.

These families need your help. CNEWA and our church partners want to provide nutrient-packed biscuits to kids in 24 Catholic schools in Ethiopia. Across the region, we want to provide families with beans, sugar, cooking oil and grain.

We also hope to fund emergency aid through dozens of Catholic health stations, to give infants, expectant women and nursing mothers the nutrition they need.

Pope Francis has said that we can’t turn our backs on the hungry. So can you help us fill their empty plates? Help us sustain these innocent people, who are growing weaker by the minute. Please don’t let them waste away.
